Biomarkers of Parkinson's Disease
By l dempsey on 12/2/2009 11:25:26 AM

Researchers at the University of South Florida are conducting a study examining potential biological markers or indicators of Parkinson's Disease. The discovery of a simple blood biomarker of disease progression will be useful in studies designed to impact the disease process and to slow or reverse the disease.  In addition, blood tests based on immune markers may also be useful as an early indicator of disease pathology, even before disease becomes clinically evident. This would allow early recognition of the disease and permit a timely intervention to delay onset or even prevent the disease.

We are looking for Parkinson's Disease patients in all stages of the disease. The study requires a simple blood draw.

By I dempsey on 12/1/2009 1:04:57 PM

Urinary Incontinence and Overactive Bladder Clinical Trial

This study is a double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled trial of VESI care for the treatment of overactive bladder in Parkinsons Disease. The study also has an open-label extension phase. This means that in the first part of the study, some people will get the placebo (sugar pill) and others will get the real drug.  In the second half of the study, everyone will be on the real drug. There are a total of 7 clinic visits, approximately a month apart.

We are looking for PD patients aged 50-80 who have been experiencing symptoms of overactive bladder syndrome (OAB). Patients must be optimized on a treatment regimen with anti-parkinsonian medication and at a stable dose during 4 weeks prior to the screening visit. Other inclusion and exclusion criteria can be determined by the study coordinator.

This study is taking place the University of South Florida in Tampa. Please contact: Kelly Sullivan at (813) 974-5909 for more information.

Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial of Lubiprostone (Amitiza) in the Treatment of Constipation Associated with Parkinsons Disease

This is a double-blind, placebo-controlled study of Amitiza for the treatment of constipation in Parkinsons Disease. This means that some people will be on the placebo and others will be on the real drug for the duration of the study.  We are looking for PD patients experiencing problems with constipation.

This study is taking place at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Please contact Israt Jahan at 813-974-5909 for more information.
